Do you know labral tear patients can easily go undiagnosed over a period? (Groh & Herrera, 2009). Unfortunately, patients may end up visiting multiple health care providers before a definite diagnosis. It can become overwhelming and affect physical, psychological, or financial prospects, burning a hole in your pocket!
Before delving further into the reasons behind it, it’s good to learn more about hip labral tear! Labral Tear is an injury to the labrum, the soft tissue covering the hip's socket (acetabulum). Patients report deep groin and buttocks pain on the side of the injured hip, stiffness while moving their hip, hip pain while movement or rotation in different directions, and a feeling or sound of click or lock during motion. Labral Tear is common in both men and women of all ages; however, research suggests that symptomatic tears occur more in women than men (Groh & Herrera, 2009).
What Causes Hip Labral Tear?
- Fall or a car accident.
- An injury while playing sports with repetitive movements or a sudden impact on the hips.
- Wear and tear over time.
- Suffering from other conditions such as Osteoarthritis of the hip and hip impingement may escalate problems even further.
Diagnosis
Patients complain of anterior hip or groin pain, so sports medicine physician or orthopedist performs a physical examination to find positive anterior hip impingement by provoking pain with flexion, adduction, and internal rotation of the symptomatic hip (Su, Chen, & Yang, 2019). If the test causes pain in the anterolateral hip or groin, it means labral tear is located anteriorly. Whereas the posterior hip impingement test is positive when pain is induced by making the patient lie with the hip and knee extended, passively extending, adducting, and externally rotating the hip (Su, Chen, & Yang, 2019). After the physical examinations and symptoms, if the doctor thinks you have a torn labral, they recommend imaging evaluations. First, the doctor may recommend conservative treatment, then maybe the surgical option. It is not uncommon to get a definite diagnosis even after months of the torn labrum as there are many muscles and other structures near the hip joint that are often misdiagnosed as common groin strains (HSS).
Advanced Joint Pain Relief Program
If you’re suffering from the condition and feel you’ve not found a treatment that provided pain relief, look no further as we can help in your healing journey! Our doctors may help improve hip labral tear with our Advanced Joint Pain Relief Program.
Our Advanced Joint Pain Relief Program is nonoperative, and doesn't utilize any form of anti-inflammatories or narcotics, rather an approach using various therapies to encourage your body to heal itself. For example, an advanced therapy we incorporate in our program is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy. In Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, our health professional draws the blood, and with the help of centrifugate, separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. We use ultrasound imaging to guide the injections, and then the doctor directly injects the platelet into the injured or diseased body tissue. PRP enhances tissue recovery by catalyzing the body’s natural healing response and tissue repair process. PRP appears to be a safe and conservative option for decreasing pain and improving function in hip labral tears.
